Making The Most Of The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
There are many more items and facilities than just books in our college Learning Resource Centre.
It’s important to visit the LRC in person early on and see the range of facilities we have. That way you will get an idea of the layout, how the collections are arranged, where your specific subject resources are found, what are the arrangements for study, etc. Some of the facilities include:
- Books
- Magazines
- Computers
- Scanners
- Printers
- DVDs
- Cameras
- Photocopier
- And much more
Make the LRC you own
To join and use the facilities in the LRC you will need your student card, so make sure you bring it with you.
Walk around the LRC and become familiar with the place and atmosphere it offers. Sit at different tables or rooms to see where you would work best.
To see how the LRC works look up books on the computerised catalogue from a reading list or try out the new technology. The equipment in the LRC has been designed to be easy even if you know nothing about computers - give it a go!
You will be given an induction on what the LRC offers but why not try and find out some basic information yourself such as:
- How many items can you take out at once?
- How long can you have them out for?
- Can you reserve an item?
- Can you reserve or renew by telephone?
- Are there fines and if so how much?
You can find out quite a lot about your LRC from our mini website, which you should study – it might help you to navigate through all the facilities we offer.
And finally make good use of the LRC staff – they are trained information experts who possess not only knowledge of their collections but also skills in searching and retrieving a wide range of information.
